He loved people, talking to people and debating with people, he missed his calling of being a lawyer. Johnny was quite opinionated and did not mind sharing that opinion with all. Johnny was well-known in the Roanoke Valley and beyond. He was currently serving as treasurer of Baptist Men’s Union and was a lifetime member of the NAACP. However, to his family he was man of year every year. He had been honored as Man of the Year, 1993 and Father of the year, 2002.

Deacon Taylor could be counted on every year to help supply the Free Flee Market. He was also a Sunday School Teacher and coordinator of the Van Ministry, along with being willing to lend a helping hand to any of the church ministries. Deacon Taylor was a praying man and a member of the SSS Prayer Ministry. He was a percussionist in the band and had served as the band president. Johnny was a graduate of Lucy Addison High School, Class of 1967. He was preceded in death by his son, Bishop George Melvin McKinley Taylor, Sr. Johnny was born November 11, 1948, in Roanoke, VA to the late William McKinley Taylor and Melissa Howie Taylor.
